NE YOUTH HARRIERS STRONG AT REGION I JUNIOR OLYMPIC MEET

USATF New England youth runners turned in a strong showing at the USATF Junior Olympic Region I Cross Country Championships in New York on Sunday. Besides strong competition from 5 other associations in the six age divisions, the sub-30 degree temperatures and strong wind gusts provided additional challenges on the Bowdoin Park course, site of many NY state championship events.

Nearly half the field was from the NE association, and local clubs earned in the meet's largest fields in recent years earned 34 of the 47 spots eligible to advance to Nationals. Sentinel Striders had 5 age divsion team wins, Granite State Flash 3, and Nashua PAL Striders 2, with BAA Masconomet, Team RUN, and Waltham TC also having at least one top 5 team finish.

Five association runners were individual race winners - Carmel Fitzgibbon (Waltham TC, G9-10), Samuel Toolin (Sentinel Striders, B11-12), Madison Clark (Granite State Flash, G13-14) Riley Gillen (Team RUN, G15-16), and Tucker McNinch (Lenox MA, B17-18) - with 10 other New England top 3 finishes

The top 5 teams and other runners in the top 30 qualified for the JO Nationals in San Antonio, Texas, on December 14. Results are linked at usatfne.org/cross.
