At New Balance Indoor Nationals in New York La Salle (RI) High School senior DJ Principe shattered the 18 year old all-New England high school indoor 2 mile record.

Principe clocked 8:47.40 to place third overall in the two mile.  His time broke the all-time New England record of 8:49.60 set in 1999 by Franklin Sanchez and makes him the eighth fastest high school performer ever indoors.

A number of high school records were broken in the season ending classic (including the Gloucester (MA) Distance Medley Relay mark that stood for 17 years).

Even with the high quality of indoor track & field in New England, only three other association athletes recorded a top 3 placing, all earning silver medals; Daniel Renwick (Old Rochester/Mattapoisett MA) in the pentathlon, 3860; Gina Rao (Ponaganset,Scituate RI) in the weight, 59'7.75", and Milton HS (MA) in the 4 x 1 mile relay in 20:41.08 (also fourth in the DMR).
