Scholastic Runners Qualify for Foot Locker and Nike Nationals championships

New England states runners earned four starting line spots for Nationals with their runs in the 37th FootLocker Northeast Championships on the Van Cortlandt Park course in New York City on Saturday. In the girls race, Jaqueline Gaughan (Exeter NH) and Grace Connolly (Natick MA) placed 2-4 for a trip to the finals in December, and Patrick O'Brien (Durham NH) was third in the boys race with Connecticut runner Drew Thompson (Trumbull) nabbing the final advancing spot.
The top 10 in each race qualified for the finals in San Diego CA on December 10. Results and stories.

At the Nike Cross National Northeast qualifier at Bowdoin Park NY, La Salle RI senior DJ Principe dominated the boys field to win by 33 seconds and advance as an individual. Granite State Flash runner Caroline Fischer (Bp.Guertin NH) took third in the girls race and likewise will move on to Nationals, as will Souhegan (Amherst NH) HS, which placed second as a team.
